Net Zero Market Advantage

The CHBA’s Net Zero Market Advantage course helps empower people, including sales professionals, builders, and realtors, to effectively communicate the value and advantages of Net Zero and Net Zero Ready Homes to clients interested in building, buying, or renovating a home to achieve CHBA’s Net Zero Home Labelling Program. Participants will learn about Net Zero and Net Zero Ready Homes in Canada and why this type of high-performance building meets the highest levels of comfort and efficiency. Participants will then explore key strategies for engaging potential customers in discussions about high-performance homes, including responding to technical questions about these houses, and how to manage client expectations. Participants will also earn about CHBA’s Net Zero Home Labelling Program and how it assures quality for homeowners. 

The course includes ungraded knowledge check questions to help participants assess their learning as well as two, interactive scenarios where they can apply lessons learned in the course to real-world situations. By the end of the course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Define Net Zero, Net Zero Ready, and Net Zero Renovation according to the CHBA. 
  2. Explain the history and evolution of Net Zero Homes, including the factors driving the market toward higher levels of energy performance in homes.
  3. Identify specific groups of people who are mostly likely to be interested in Net Zero Homes.
  4. Discuss Net Zero Homes with customers by focusing on their interests, values, and needs. 
  5. Talk about features and characteristics of Net Zero Homes, including high-performance building envelopes and mechanicals such as heating and cooling systems. 
  6. Gain insight on what we want our homebuyers to think and feel about Net Zero Energy Homes and the challenges of selling Net Zero. 
  7. Describe how the Net Zero Home Labelling program offers people quality assurance when building or renovating a Net Zero or Net Zero Ready Home. 
  8. Explain ways to manage customer expectations around high performance homes 
  9. Describe strategies for marketing a Net Zero Home to potential customers. 
  10. Know how we should talk about Net Zero Homes with buyers. 
  11. Have legal language that can be included in purchase/sales agreements. 

The Net Zero Market Advantage course is offered in an online, self-paced, asynchronous format. It should take participants approximately six to eight hours to complete all the modules. However, the modules do not need to be completed in one sitting and participants can always go back to review material in any completed modules.
